Identify, prevent, and respond to ACH, wire, and card-based payment fraud with practical strategies designed for financial professionals.
Electronic payments: ACH, wires, and card-based transactions, are vital for efficient business operations, but they also expose organizations to significant fraud risk. As digital payment volumes grow, so do the number and sophistication of fraud attempts. This session provides a comprehensive, practical framework for identifying, preventing, and responding to electronic payment fraud in financial operations.
- We begin with an overview of the most common fraud schemes affecting businesses today, including business email compromise (BEC), account takeovers, vendor impersonation, and false invoice scams. Participants will learn how fraudsters exploit weak verification processes, poor internal controls, and social engineering to gain unauthorized access to funds. Understanding these patterns is the first step in building stronger defenses.
- Next, the course focuses on prevention strategies. Participants will learn how to implement effective internal controls that minimize fraud exposure, such as segregation of duties, multi-level payment approvals, and dual verification for any changes to vendor bank details. The session also highlights how to build fraud awareness into daily workflows, from vendor onboarding to payment authorization.
- Technology plays an important role in fraud prevention, so we’ll explore the tools and systems that can help detect and prevent suspicious activity. This includes transaction monitoring, positive pay, and anomaly detection features available in banking portals and accounting software. Participants will also gain practical insights into reviewing payment reports and audit logs to spot irregularities before they turn into losses.
Who Should Attend: Financial operations staff, accountants, fraud prevention teams, and bank or credit union employees who want to protect their organizations from electronic payment fraud.
